【Summary 2 minutes】
In 2017, Mr Trump became president of the United States and has shocked the world.
The shock is that the story that has been continuing since the past, such as the paradise of the earth will be born if the globalization of economy and liberalization of politics blend.
But that has lost by the populism in America.
The old 20th-century political model of left versus right is now largely irrelevant, and the real divide today is between global and national, global or local.
There are two solutions to the new political divide.
●First: De-globalize the economy and turn it back into a national economy.
●Second: Globalize the political system.
America’s populism (not only America) can solve problems that stay in the country, but problems occurring at the world level – problems of environmental destruction and technological innovation (disappearance of jobs by AI) and bioethics (bioethics) caused by genetic engineering – cannot be solved.
“AI (Artificial Intelligence)” may deprive employment as one of the big problems occurring at the world level.
The AI deprives tens of millions of jobs in the next 20 to 30 years and confuses the economies of every country.
There is “basic income” as a powerful method corresponding to this.
But there is room for discussion such as where to draw money, not only money, but where is the basic line of food, clothing, shelter and education.
Furthermore, “climate change refugees” are one of the environmental problems.
This is whether each country accepts people who have been unable to live in the land due to desertification and sea level rise as immigrants.
As a countermeasure to this, Mr. Yuval brings the concept of loyalty.
He advocates to deal with problems by loving humanity as a whole to love, family, region, and state.
However, there is room for discussion whether people can accept the concept of livelihood with survival.
In any case, the way to deal with world-class problems is to establish a global governance.
In this TED Talk, Chris Anderson, who is the Curator of TED, asked Mr Yuval , “What are humans for?”
Mr Yuval answered, ” ‘We do not know‘ as far as we know”.
And for the question “What do we want to want?“,
“I want to know the truth and understand the reality, to change reality, so that our desires and wishes come true.”
From the 1940s to the 1950s people were convinced that the end of the Cold War would end in a nuclear war.
However, in fact there was no nuclear war.
People, human beings have the power to overcome challenges.
If we learned something from the past history, we gained the ability to make something.
By using the power of science to conquer and dominate the external environment, we have transformed the environment into what we desire.
However, because we did not truly understand the complexity of the ecosystem, we faced environmental “meltdown”, and in addition we did not get mental satisfaction.
if we now try to reengineer the world inside us without really understanding it, especially without understanding the complexity of our mental system, we might cause a kind of internal ecological disaster, and we’ll face a kind of mental meltdown inside us.
